General: What are the savings to me of using your product?

General: What are your product offerings?

  • YAWC ProTM - A plug-in for Microsoft Word for Windows, which allows you convert Word to XML/HTML on the client PC.
  • YAWC OnlineTM - YAWC Online is a fast, reliable solution which is ideal for institutions that have many different people developing content for a website. The conversion process is completed on a centrally managed online server.
  • YAWC ServerTM - YAWC Server will be released in 2006 and will be a stand-alone version of YAWC Online for Intranets.

General: What specification PC does a user have to have? RAM, processors, and memory?

  • There are no specific hardware requirements, other than Internet connectivity. You require Microsoft Word 97 or higher on Windows, or Word 98 or higher on MacOS

General: Is YAWC only available for English or is it multilingual?

  • The YAWC Word template has its menu in English, but it works on all language editions of Word, not just English. We can localise the menu for you if required.
  • The YAWC Online website pages are in English, but it will accept Word documents generated in any language edition of Word.

General: What are your development plans for YAWC?

  • YAWC Online is continually being developed. We have a dedicated product development team who are continually updating it. We will be adding support for new interaction types, and additional output formats, such as accessible PDF, and Braille encoding.
  • YAWC Server will be released in 2006 and will be a stand-alone version of YAWC Online for Intranets, which you can install within your own IT infrastructure.
  • YAWC Pro will be supported, but is no longer being actively developed, as we believe that the client-server architecture is more beneficial for most organisations.

General: Does YAWC comply with Accessibility standards? What level of WAI?

  • YAWC produces accessible HTML output that conforms with Level 2 of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, v1.0 (WCAG). Conformance with Level 3 of the guidelines is also possible, with some extra training for authors.
  • WCAG conformance is a requirement of the UK Special Educational Needs Disability Act (SENDA)
  • Note that there are some technical incompatibilities between SCORM and WCAG conformance that affect the behaviour of HTML interactions.
