What does the template do?
The YAWC (Yet Another Word Converter!) Word template enhances your Word editing environment to help you apply named Word styles such as headings and lists to your documents. This is important if you want to get clean HTML from your Word content. When you create a document using this template, you will see a number of small additions to your Word environment.
- The standard Word formatting toolbar is replaced with the YAWC
toolbar, which looks like this:
The toolbar contains icons to quickly apply styles such as Title, Heading 1, Heading 2, List Bullet, etc.
- The template also has a range of keyboard shortcuts defined, for example <Ctrl>+1 for Heading 1, <Ctrl>+2 for Heading 2, etc.
- Finally, a new YAWC menu is added, to access a more complete range of styles, grouped into categories like Headings, Lists, and Tables.
Together, these features make editing and structuring Word files fast and efficient, and result in clean, structured content that converts into clean, structured HTML, almost regardless of the conversion tool you use.
Converting to HTML
The template also allows you convert your Word file into HTML, using the YAWC>Convert & Preview… command. This command uploads your file to the YAWC Online server, converts it, and displays a web page preview, all from within Word itself.
- This is provided as a free service, but limited to Word files of 50KB or less in size. Some Google ads may also appear in the output.
- You can upgrade to a free trial of our online Word to HTML conversion service to remove these restrictions.
- If you have lots of Word files to publish, we can format and convert them for you.
We have a number of Word templates available, suitable for different purposes. Each is digitally signed so that you can use it while keeping your macro security setting to High (cf. Word template installer
You can place Word templates anywhere on your PC, but for convenience, it is best to install them in your own Word template directory. To conveniently install any of the above templates to the appropriate directory, download this Word Template Installer (a Word document) and save it in the same folder as the template you downloaded. Then open the Word document, and it will install any templates in the same folder to the appropriate location, usually somewhere like C:\Documents and Settings\<yourname>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\ (on Windows 2000 or XP).
If you prefer to install the template manually, use the Word command Tools>Options… to identify your template installation folder. When the Options dialog box opens, choose the File Locations tab group, and select the User Templates item in the File types list. Click the Modify button to see the full path of the template installation folder.
